Ms Putonen好像也比以前The Franklin School 的老师与家长沟通得多。第一周就给家长email发了安白在学校的照片,简短几句安白的情况。这两天又发了长长的邮件。
Good morning! I know that many of you have commented that you get no information from your Kindergartner about what we do at school. I am going to try and send a newsletter via e-mail to let you know how things are going.
We are off to a great start! The children have settled into the routine nicely and seem to be making lots of new friends and enjoying Kindergarten. We have been very busy! We are starting reading groups this week! Little books should be coming home soon… please enjoy reading them with your child and remember to send them back the next day J We have also started Writer’s Workshop. We are focusing on generating ideas and drawing a detailed picture that match our words and ideas. I think their favorite part is the “author’s chair” where they get to share. Although the first time I told them they were going to sit in the “author’s” chair I did have a couple of students ask me why? And what is an author? J In math we are learning to sort by different attributes (size, shape and color) and are organizing this information into a graph. When a graph comes home let your child tell you what they learned by reading the graph. i.e. Which has the most? Least? How many?
We have earned our first class celebration for great behavior! Yeah! We voted and made a graph to see what celebration we wanted to have. Our choices were extra recess, extra center time, a movie, play-doh time and a food treat. Most of the children voted for extra center time, but play-doh and a movie were a close second so we are doing all 3. On Friday afternoon (around 2:30) we will put in a movie and the kids can choose to play at centers or with play-doh while they watch. I am so proud of their great behavior and their hard work!
We went to the Media Center for a lesson with Mrs. Harhai last week. We go to Media every other week. Our next lesson is on Thursday, October 1st. At the time your child will get to check out a book. It will be due back 2 weeks from then on October 15th.
We will be having individual parent conferences in November. Many of you had a chance to sign up for conferences at Back to school night. If you didn’t please, take a minute to open the attachment and pick a time that works for you. Please e-mail me the date and time so that I can put it on my calendar. I look forward to meeting with you and sharing all the wonderful things your child is doing in Kindergarten.
In addition to Parent conferences we have a parent visitation morning in October. The morning of October 12th parents are invited to come in and observe their child in the classroom. More information will be coming from the school about the exact times for the visitation. I wanted to give you a heads-up that there is a slight possibility I may be out that morning. On October 9-11th I will be doing the Susan B. Komen 3 day Breast Cancer Walk. It is 60 miles of walking over 3 days. My plan is to be in school on Monday for the parent visitation but never having walked 60 miles in one weekend before I am a little worried about how I’ll feel Monday morning. If I am unable to come in to work we can find another time for you to visit the classroom. I will send an e-mail Sunday night or early Monday morning on October 12th if I am unable to come in so that you are aware there will be a sub in the room. Thanks for your understanding in advance! Hopefully planning for the worst will bring me (and my feet) good luck and I’ll see you on October 12th!
Have a terrific day and please let me know if you have any questions/concerns (or would rather not get long e-mails about Kindergarten ….)
